Vehicle-to-Load, what does it take?

BY ANDREW NAMOU

As Americans hurry to buy a flurry of new electric vehicle entries, many vehicle manufacturers are offering V2L or Vehicle-to-Load technologies to capture more of the electric vehicle benefits. A great example of this is Ford’s F-150 Onboard Generator option which comes in two flavors, a 2.4kW or 7.2kW of power.

According to Matt Hogan from Road and Track, he states “Ford claims that the top-spec 7.2-kW system can power a plasma cutter, TiG welder, chop saw, air compressor, angle grinder, and work light, simultaneously. That mobile welding shop can run for 32 hours continuously on a full tank, making all-day, heavy-duty work possible. If you don’t need that much wattage, Ford says the 2.4-kW system can run a jackhammer or a mobile theater setup complete with a projector, loudspeakers, and popcorn machine for up to 85 hours.”

What type of loads would you want to power and for how long either at a work site or elsewhere?
